Candidate Onboarding Made Simple

Back to Blog

I asked our inhouse recruitment consultant if he can suggest an idea for a blog post, what process do many recruiters struggle with? He immediately replied, candidate onboarding. This is the process of getting the candidate information into your system so that you can successfully place them. But for many recruiters, this is a cumbersome process taking up lots of staff hours and having a high drop off rate.

Here at Bullhorn Plugin, we make candidate onboarding simple.

The best success rates come from a simple to use onboarding process. Here’s what we found works best;

  • Very simple initial registration form containing name, email, phone and resume/cv upload
  • Parse the resume to get as much information out of it as possible, saving the candidate time and effort
  • Create several smaller forms for certain information, instead of one huge form
  • Make it obvious which fields are mandatory and which are optional
  • Provide a note of progression (you are 50% through)

Sometimes you need to ask a lot of information, we have many customers who recruit in the healthcare sector who often require lots of additional information, such as skills and the upload of certificates. Other industries requiring lots more than standard info is aviation (flight time, certificates, certificate issue and expiration dates) and yachting (background checks and even tattoo information).

Some candidates can be daunted by a large onboarding process, which is where splitting this up in to sections really comes into it’s own. There is a sense of progression and each section isn’t overwhelming and can complete each area as and when they choose.

Smart candidate onboarding will have your candidates ready for placement faster and give you better data, it’s a win win.
