Bullhorn Parsing the Right Way

Back to Blog

The Bullhorn CV / Resume Parser is pretty decent as far as parsers go. It is one of the more accurate parsers available, with a good success rate of finding content from the file and saving to the correct field in Bullhorn.

But parsers are not fool proof and make mistakes. Adding a work experience into a reference, a postcode into address 1 or even logging the wrong name completely is not unheard of.

By default, the Bullhorn parser will also try and parse as much as it can, if you want it or not.

So what is the right way to have Bullhorn parse your resumes?

Adding candidates or job applications via the website, we usually ask for other data alongside the resume. This may be minimal data such as Name, Email and Phone number. Some of our customers have much larger forms, including qualifications, certificates, references and more.

We are safe to assume the data manually typed by the candidate is correct. We can then use the Bullhorn API to populate these fields, overwriting any data inserted by the resume parser.

This guarantees correct data to these fields, regardless of the parser input.

We can also choose what to let the parser parse

We have control over what the parser actually parses into Bullhorn. We can direct the parser too populate just the Work Experience, or skills section. We do not have to blindly hand over the resume to the parsing software and hope for a good parse, we can be much more selective.

Choose which fields to parse, for each type of job

Some customers choose to parse different fields depending on the job type being applied for. For example, an executive position will have the parser parse through the work experience and references from the resume. A manual labour position will parse just any skills found in the resume.

As you can see, we have lots of control over what data we parse from the resume, and when accompanying the resume upload with a web form, we have a very powerful data capture system.

Team our resume parsing features with our Bullhorn candidate spam prevention system and you have the perfect solution, preventing spam candidates and pulling the exact data you need from those candidates.
