The Bullhorn REST API gives us access to many different areas of the Bullhorn ATS. Using the API, we have access to data such as Candidates, Jobs, Clients, Appointments, Notes, History, Job Applications, Placements, Timesheets and more.
Each of these data areas themselves have many individual fields, for example, Candidates as an entity features 189 different fields, such as name, status, source, address, email, skills etc.
Imagine a large registration form, whereby the candidate arrives on to your website, completes a multi-page form and on pressing submit, their information is submitted to Bullhorn via the REST API and a new candidate created. If just one of these fields returned an error, all we would simply receive from the API is a ‘an error has occurred’ message.
This clearly is not the most useful, which is why our Bullhorn to WordPress Plugin comes with full REST API Error Reporting. Say for example, a question is asked on the registration form for further information, but the field in Bullhorn only accepts 100 characters, instead of ‘an error occurred’, our plugin will say
‘Field xx generated an error due to too many characters submitted, 100 expected’
We can then either limit the website field to 100 characters, trim the response automatically or change the field via Bullhorn.
This Bullhorn REST API Error Reporting module we developed saves much time debugging and helps us turn around the vast majority of our Bullhorn to WordPress projects around in 5 working days.
For the most part, no errors are generated during the initial project as we help and advise on correct field usage. Errors are sometimes caused further down the line when Bullhorn fields are modified.
