I agree it is probably a harsh post title and wasn’t sure whether to use it or not but in the end thought I’d run with it, here’s why.
As software and website developers, we spend a lot of time and effort in coding to combat user errors and stupidity. For example, a contact form requesting a reply where the user fails to add any form of contact information. How can you be contacted if you provide no contact information? To combat this, we check the form for said information prior to submitting it and send back to the user if required.
Users do all sorts of weird and wacky things, you can test to the nth degree but only when a product is released in to the wild do you realise how bizarre users can be.
Our Bullhorn to WordPress plugin is in it’s twelfth year and received hundreds of updates during that time, and will continue to be updated as new feature requests come in. We believed that we had coded every eventuality of possible insanity from users until today.
Our plugin processes thousands of job page and applications each day across our client network however something new happened today. I won’t go in to details over what the user did but it was really stupid and completely nonsensical. But as a result, their application failed to process.
Once we figured out what this user was doing to cause the process to fail we could code to facilitate this and 30 minutes later the issue was solved.
Now we could have simply replied to the client in question that the user has to complete the application form like any normal human being would do, but if one person has done this, maybe someone else will try in the future, maybe.
We chose to code the plugin to deal with this interaction, no matter how bizarre it may be. So now the plugin is even more protected against stupidity, we challenge your stupidity and try to cause the process to fail now 🙂
When choosing your Bullhorn to WordPress integration partner for your website, ensure the plugin is tried and tested and has a good portfolio of companies and can see it working in the wild. Every customer of ours is a happy customer, we make sure of it as we only accept final payment once you are 100% happy with the integration.
